About

I write like Jack Kerouac if he went to therapy.

This is a place for intellectual rebellions, wandering minds, and the thoughts that don’t fit neatly into words—but which insist on being heard. I think deeply, feel fully, and try to gesture toward truth, like a finger pointing at the moon.

I’m Paul.

Writer by compulsion, philosopher by disposition, feeler by birth.

I write because I need to—it’s how I wrestle with ideas, emotions, and the contradictions in between. It’s how I’ve made sense of the world, and my place in it. Honestly, it’s a bit like therapy.

To me, philosophy isn’t a toy you pick up when it’s fun. It’s not some dry, dusty academic discipline either. It’s a spiritual practice. A way of existing in the world. Something embodied.

That’s what earned me the nickname El Filósofo (which means “the philosopher” in Spanish).

I’ve studied ideas, lived through a few of my own existential crises, and I’m still here—sauntering vaguely toward enlightenment, whatever that is.

El Filósofo started as a small blogging project to pass the time, but it’s become more like a journal of my meditations made public.

Here, you’ll find essays, fragments, and reflections that wrestle with whatever’s been keeping me up at night—sometimes philosophical, sometimes political, often personal, and always honest.

This is a space where I try my best to make sense of the world—and hopefully to offer something to those of us trying to do the same.

If that’s you, I sincerely hope you feel at home here. You’re welcome to linger, read, comment, or get in touch. My hope is that El Filósofo can be a place for the communion of minds—for kindred spirits who think deeply, feel fully, and aren’t afraid to wrestle with what matters.

Filosofical Fragments

Essays, fragments, and reflections—sometimes philosophical, sometimes political, often personal, and always honest. Posts every week.

If you think deeply, feel fully, and find yourself wrestling with what matters, this might be your thing.

And if something here resonates, I’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment, send a message, or buy me a coffee if you feel moved to support my work. It’s the conversations and gestures of solidarity that keep this alive.

  • an ode to used bookshops
I like a good used bookshop like I like a good pub: affordable, accessible, and diverse. Strangely enough, like pubs, there’s a sense in which a used bookshop is a microcosm of the whole community. Reading attracts all types of people, after all, and you can tell a lot about someone by their taste in… Read more: an ode to used bookshops
  • reflections on cpe
I recently finished my first basic unit of Clinical Psychospiritual Education. It was exactly this kind of experience that I wanted when I first applied to my MDiv program. I liked theology, religion, philosophy, and that kind of thing; but I also wanted to do something with that information, y’know? I felt like that was… Read more: reflections on cpe

Greetings, readers! A little bit of digital housekeeping. Welcome to my blog’s new home! For the past week, I’ve been working on getting myself set up on a brand-new, shiny server in Switzerland for increased reliability and privacy. Not to mention, I’ve been among those “hosers” divesting from American big tech companies insofar as it… Read more: a new home 🚀
  • be negative
I’ve often heard people tell me to “be positive”, and I can see the value of positivity on some level. It’s what allows us to keep going, to build a better world, to live a better life. I’m sure you know all that, though, so let’s be honest: it’s a boring take. If that’s all… Read more: be negative
  • roger that!
The funny thing about therapy is that, while you might assume that it’s about one person telling another person all of their problems, it’s actually about two people, not one. You need two people to have any kind of relationship, and that is precisely what therapy is. On the very last day of my placement… Read more: roger that!
